佐藤 春夫
明治25年(1892) – 昭和39年(1964)
和歌山県生まれ。中学時代から『明星』などに歌を投稿する。永井荷風を慕って慶應義塾に入学。『スバル』『三田文学』に寄せた詩で頭角を現す。大正8年(1919)『田園の憂鬱』を『中外』に発表し、作家としての地位を確立する。大正10年(1921)谷崎潤一郎夫人・千代子との恋愛のなかで『殉情詩集』を刊行し、『秋刀魚の歌』を執筆。艶美清朗な詩歌と倦怠・憂鬱を映す小説を軸に、随筆、童話、翻訳、評論など多彩な分野で活躍した。主な著作に『西班牙犬の家』『都会の憂鬱』『退屈読本』『車塵集』『晶子曼陀羅』など。
Haruo Satō
1892 – 1964
Born in Wakayama Prefecture. During his middle-school years, he contributed poems to magazines such as Myōjō. Admiring Nagai Kafū, he enrolled in Keio University, and soon distinguished himself with poems submitted to Subaru and Mita Bungaku. In 1919, he published Melancholy in the Countryside in Chūgai, establishing his reputation as a writer. In 1921, amid his romantic involvement with Chiyo, the wife of Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, he published A Collection of Devotional Poems and wrote “A Song of Pacific Saury.” Centering his career on lyrically sensuous poetry and fiction suffused with ennui and melancholy, he was active across many fields, including essays, children’s stories, translation, and criticism. His major works include The House of the Spanish Dog, Urban Melancholy, The Book of Boredom, Car-Dust Collection, and Akiko Mandala.
